Tactics & Supplies

Good morning soldiers, Today we discuss tactics. Our goal is to provide you with the best tools for the job. For that we order you, the veterans, to disclose your most common tactics in the form of a brief listing of various typical tactics, a rigorous description of what you intended to achieve with them and how you executed them. You might want to mention the weapons that provided you with an optimal advantage when carrying out a specific tactic. The input you will provide will be analyzed...

The top five most played maps of all times!

Greetings soldiers, In the past weeks we have released the top four most played maps of all times across Facebook and Twitter. We also asked the followers among you which map you reckoned to be on the, very honorable, first place. A lot of suggestions were given, of which a surprising amount incorrect to be honest. Very understandable however, as we made the most common mistake ourselves as well ;-) Now... we won't keep you reading any longer. We hereby present to you: The top five most played...

Progress on the coding front, a technical update

Soldiers, Time for a technical update! As you surely remember from my Christmas blog post , we've been working hard at implementing a first playable version of the game using our new modular code base. Besides all the art, we've been working in parallel on implementing (1) many of the core game mechanics, (2) a map system and (3) networking. The time has now come to integrate these into something playable. Game mechanic-wise we've implemented base versions of many important features. Soldiers...

New concept art & models!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Today it is my pleasure to show you some concept art and a couple of 3D models :) Concept Art This series of drawings gives you a little insight into our proces of making a background image for the new website. It has been quite the proces to find the right composition and add some of the Call of Combat features. As you can see the art piece is still far from finished. Its being worked on as we speak! We hope that you appreciate this sneak peek. Click to enlarge and see...

February Status Report

Good day soldiers, I'd like to start off by thanking you guys for your activity and involvement on the blog and forum. As I've said before, this whole proces would be very different and a lot harder without your input and support. Your aid in game design issues is invaluable (stacking, what makes CoC fun, etc) . And your aid will be greatly needed when the testing starts as well :-). Its hard to imagine what this proces would be like without your support. A lot less fun and motivating, thats...

A Life After Call of Combat

Good news everyone. The team is expanding and a lot of work is getting done. I would like to hijack one blog post to talk about something a bit different than usual. It's actually not directly about the game. And you'll be the main contributors this time. I'd like to ask about what we experience in the game. What are these little things that make us want to start playing a game, and keep us hooked to it? Is it the thrill of victory, the adrenaline when going through a tight spot, that epic...

Where's my soldier at?

Hello Combatants! Having only just joined the Call of Combat v2 development team, I think a small introduction would be in order. My name is Wessel van der Es, and I will be working on the game as a technical artist. My focus will be getting the game to look awesome using the latest and best lighting and shading techniques, as well as bending my head over a few other technical aspects of the game. One interesting thing that I've already been working on is something that has also been discussed...

To stack or not to stack (soldiers)

Respected Call of Combat addicts, Hopefully you have all had a great start in the new year. Life isn't always easy, on the contrary sometimes... But life is what you make of it! Life can be fantastic. You, and only you, are in control :) Ok, thats more than enough philosophical crap for an early sunday morning. Today I would like to dicuss game design with you guys. Wikipedia: "Game design is the game development process of designing the content and rules of a game in the pre-production stage...

Fortunately we are proud and able to say that the entire team still is very motivated...

Technical update: End of the year musings

Dear all, As you all know this time of the year is all about reflection and contemplation. Reflection about the year that passed and about the year ahead. For most normal people this concerns matters such as life, love and health. Not for nerds like me, however. I like to contemplate about the ideal code structure and our general design philosophy ;). Allow me to share some of my thoughts with you in this quite technical and long blog post. As you all know we are building a game that is...
